Music of InterestThis is a featured page

Healing SoundsI use music a lot to help ground myself when anxious and to help myself to go to sleep. Many nights the only way for me to turn off the cycle of chatter in my head, so I can rest, is to listen to soothing music (or guided imagery cds) with a set of ear phones (I just received an ipod nano for my birthday!).

I listen to a lot of quiet, non-vocal music when I am anxious. Having nature sounds in the background works best for me to get grounded and more relaxed (lyrics seem to trigger most times and I hate commercials).

With that said, I do enjoy R&B and some rock when I am sweating on the elliptical at the gym.

This list seems to be my shortest at the moment. Keep an eye out for my recommendations to build. Hope you find something that can soothe your soul.

NatureQuest

The melodic tunes of Mozart, Debussy, and Tchaikovsky with a background of nature sounds. Birds tune in to the melodies of these classic artists.

George Winston

My all time favorite album!!!! (All of his albums are worth investing in)

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com essential recording
The precursor to 1982's commercial breakthrough, December, George Winston's 1980 Windham Hill debut boasts all the lyrical power and poignancy of its follow-up. A simple, clear recording for solo piano, Autumn finds Winston developing simple melodic motifs with studied left-hand underpinning, on hypnotic pieces like "Woods," which moves from a brisk rhythmic figure to rubato minor-key runs. Leaving pauses and breaths in all the right places, Winston suggests the play of color and light, the comfortable melancholy, and the encroaching slow-down that characterizes the fall season. Full of memorable themes, sure pacing, and whiffs of classical grandeur, Autumn is a timeless album that belongs to the firmament of the new age canon. --James Rotondi

Although, if you are a long time Govi fan, this is a controversial album-I enjoy it a great deal. It is my first Govi album and it does relax me and give me a sense of smooth passion.

Personal Review from Amazon.com
By William K. Smothers "Fogman" (Hockessin, Delaware)

Govi's earlier albums are all fantastic; but I have been waiting years for him to plug in his guitar more often and to pick up the pace a little. He does that on Jewel Box, which has the unmistakeable sound of Govi with an added electric groove. I totally disagree with the music reviewer (above) who implies Jewel Box is a move by Govi towards the sound of Larry Carlton, etc. Yes, Jewel Box is different from Govi's earler albums, but as always he creates his own unique and beautiful style of guitar music. The nice thing about Jewel Box is that it enhances Govi's music collection, rather than just adding to it.

Not to worry, Jewel Box does have a few tracks with the traditional Govi "flamenco" acoustic guitar sound: track #5 Saphire Sky and #9 Emerald Eyes are beautiful tunes that would easily fit right into any of Govi's earlier album releases.
